Under the aegis of National Oral Health Care Programme, training programmes are being conducted for the Dental Surgeons and Health Workers. A brief over view of such activities is mentioned herewith.

1. Training Programme for Dental Surgeons of Delhi State

The first training & re-orientation Training Programme for dental surgeons working in various Government Hospitals/Health Centers of Delhi was conducted on 6-7 June 2001 in the Conference Hall, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. The programme was inaugurated by Director, AIIMS, Prof. P.K. Dave as Chief Guest & was attended by 86 Dental Surgeons including 46 from different organisations such as Directorate Health Services, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Corporation, Central Government Health Services and Railways etc.

2. Training Programme for Dental Interns of Delhi Region

The training & re-orientation Training Programme for Interns of various Dental Colleges of National Capital Region of Delhi & U.P. was conducted on 2nd September 2001 in the Lecture Theatre - III, Teaching Block, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. The programme was inaugurated by Padmashree Dr. L.K. Gandhi, Hony. Dental Advisor to Govt. of India and President-Elect Commonwealth Dental Association, as Chief Guest. This Training Programme was attended by 52 interns and fresh dental graduates from Dental Wing, Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, Santosh Dental College, Ghaziabad and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

3. Training Programme for Dental Surgeons of Assam State

The Training and Re-orientation Training Programme for Dental Surgeons of Assam state was organized on 5th October 2001 at The Regional Dental College, Guwahati. The Chief Guest & Commissioner, Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Assam Shri Alok Perti inaugurated the Training Programme. About 100 Dental Surgeons from various Govt. Hospitals and Health Centres of Assam, Faculty of Guwahati Medical College and Regional Dental College, Guwahati, representatives from the Directorate of Health Services, Govt. of Assam, renowned dental surgeons of the town, distinguished personalities, dental students and interns attended this function.

4. Training Programme for Dental Surgeons of Maharashtra State

The Training and Re-orientation Training Programme for Dental Surgeons working in various Govt. Hospitals/ Health Centres of Maharashtra state was conducted on 9-10 March 2002 at the Public Health Institute, Mata Kucheri Road, Nagpur. The Training Programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. Prakash Chahande, Vice-chancellor, Kavi Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek, Nagpur. About 100 Dental Surgeons from various Govt. Hospitals and Health Centres participated in the Training Programme.

5. Training Programme for Dental Surgeons of N-E States at Shillong

The Training and Re-orientation Workshop for Dental Surgeons working in various Govt. Hospitals/ Health Centres of Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur and Assam state was conducted on 22-23 April 2002 at the Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong, Meghalaya. About 125 Dental Surgeons from various Govt. Hospitals and Health Centres participated in the workshop.

6. Training Programme for Dental Surgeons of Punjab State

The Training and re-orientation Workshop for Dental Surgeons of Punjab State was conducted under the aegis of National Oral Health Care Programme by Department of Dental Surgery, AIIMS and Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Punjab at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh on 19-20 July 2002. About 85 Dental Surgeons posted in different Govt.Hospitals/ Health Centres of Punjab attended the workshop. The workshop began with a brief Inaugural Function held in the Committee Room, Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh. Hon'ble Minister for Health and family Welfare, Govt. of Punjab, Sh. R. C. Dogra inaugurated the workshop by lighting the lamp. The Principal Secretary Department of Health Sh. Ranjan Kashyap, The Director, Department of Health Dr. D.P.S. Sidhu, The Director ESI, Dr. G. L. Goyal were also present as the Guest of Honour.

7. Training Programme for Indian Railway Dental Surgeons at Delhi

The Training and re-orientation Workshop for Dental Surgeons of Indian Railways was conducted under the aegis of National Oral Health Care Programme by Department of Dental Surgery, AIIMS at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi 26 November 2002. About 22 Dental Surgeons posted in different Govt.Hospitals/ Health Centres of Indian Railways through out the country attended the workshop. The workshop began with a brief Inaugural Function held in the Committee Room, Rail Bhawan, New Delhi. The Director General (Railway Health Services) Dr. K. Suresh inaugurated the workshop. Dr. Girija Shankar, Director Industrial Health Dr. A. Ghosh Executive Director (Health) and Sh. Sudhir Chandra, Member Staff also participated in the workshop.

8. Training Programme for Dental Surgeons of N-E States at Agartala

The Training and Re-orientation Workshop for Govt. Dental Surgeons and Health Workers of Tripura was conducted on 12-13 March 2003 at State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development, Agartala under the aegis of National Oral Health Care Programme. The Workshop was inaugurated by Sh. Manik Dey, Hon'ble Minister for Power and Social Welfare, Govt. of Tripura as Chief Guest, Dr. N. Das, Director Health Services, Tripura and Dr. S. R. Das, Director Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine, as Special Guests. About 100 persons including the Dental Surgeons from various Govt. Hospitals and Health Centres of Tripura, representatives from the Directorate of Health Services, Govt. of Tripua, Members of Indian Medical Association, Tripura Branch, renowned dental surgeons of the town and distinguished personalities attended this programme.

9. Training Programme for Health Workers of Maharashtra State

On the 10th March 2002, Oral Health Training Programme for Health Workers for Nagpur district was organized in collaboration with Govt. Dental College and Hospital. Approximately 112 Health Workers from various organizations of Nagpur District attended the Training Programme organized at Public Health Institute, Mata Kucheri Road, Nagpur. An overwhelming response was seen among the Health Workers in discussion about oral Health.

10. Training Programme for Health Workers of Delhi State

On 12th February 2002, a Training Programme for Health Workers was organized with the help of the video film and lecture in the conference hall of All India Institute of Medical Sciences. About 75 Health Workers attended this Training Programme from various Zones of Directorate of Health Services, Delhi including School Health Scheme, Maulana Azad Dental College, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The objective of the Training Programme was to train the Health Workers so that they can disseminate oral health education and prevention methods in the community and school children during their routine health related activities.

11. Training Programme for Health Workers of N-E States at Shillong

On the 23 April 2002, Oral Health Training Workshop for Health Workers for Shillong district and Military and Para Military Health Workers posted in the region was organized at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong. Approximately 60 Health Workers attended the workshop.

12. Two school teachers training programme in SCERT, New Delhi

On 19 and 23 September 2002, schoolteachers training programme was conducted in the premises of SCERT, Varun Marg, defence Colony, New Delhi. The SCERT is a state govt. organization, which conducts refresher training for the schoolteachers and is responsible for regulation of school education in the state Govt run schools. Approximately 205 schoolteachers were trained with the help of video film on oral health entitled "Kripaya Muskuraiye" and slides in Hindi.

13. School teachers training programme in SCERT, New Delhi

On 16th and 21st January 2003, A school teachers training programme was conducted in the premises of SCERT, Varun Marg, defence Colony, New Delhi. Approximately 200 schoolteachers and 11 co-ordinators from SCERT were trained with the help of video film on oral health entitled "Kripaya Muskuraiye" and slides in Hindi. The teachers took keen interest in the methods of prevention of oro-dental problems in the public and discussed a lot about it. The teachers were requested to conduct the oral health education of the schoolchildren in their own schools and were assured the help they want any educational material, literature and charts etc.

14. Training Programme for Health Workers of Punjab State

A training programme for Health Workers of Punjab State was conducted on 20th July 2002 at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh. This training programme was attended by about 135 health workers from various areas of Punjab. The video film on oral health "Kripiya Muskusaiye" was shown to the Health Workers. Many health workers complained non-availability of dental materials with the dental surgeons posted at primary health centers.

15. School teachers training programme in AIIMS, New Delhi

A schoolteachers training programme on oral health was conducted in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi on 4th January 2003 in collaboration with Department of Psychiatry, AIIMS. The schoolteachers were trained with the help of the video film entitled "Kripaya Muskuraiye" and slides in Hindi. About 52 teachers attended the programme.

16. Training Programme for Health Workers of N-E States at Agartala

On 13th April 2003, the Training Programme for Health Workers of Tripura was organized at State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development, Agartala under the aegis of National Oral Health Care Programme". About 100 health workers attended the programme. The film entitled "Kripaya Muskuraiye" was screened and the translations werd one in local language by Dr. Manik Saha, Dr. Animesh Paul, Dr. Dipak Paul Majumdar and Dr. Partha Roychaudhary.

17. Training Programme for Health Workers of Chailengta Sub-division, Tripura

A training programme was conducted under the aegis of National Oral Health Care Programme at Manu Block of Chailengta Sub-division, Tripura by a team of Dental Surgeons and Medical Officers on the sub-division on 18th June 2003. About 170 health workers attended the programme. Dr. Partha Raychaudhury conducted the training with the help of Video film training manual etc.
